Part-Time Accountant

Job Description

Our client, a growing local company located in southeast Calgary, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant for a temporary part-time position (1–3 months). This is an excellent opportunity to join a business with a close-knit, family-oriented culture and play a key role in transitioning their accounting records to QuickBooks Online.
 
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and problem solver, comfortable working independently to assess current processes, streamline workflows, and ensure accurate and efficient data migration. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work in a supportive, community-driven environment while contributing to the company's continued growth.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general accounting duties, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities
• Prepare and analyze financial reports and summaries
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with maintaining accurate financial records
• Support the accounts payable process, including invoice review and payment processing (as needed)
• Assist with accruals, intercompany entries, and variance analysis
• Maintain and ensure the accuracy of data in accounting systems, including QuickBooks Online
• Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and credit card transactions
• Collaborate across departments to gather financial data and improve reporting accuracy
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including the adoption of new tools and accounting processes

Qualifications:

• Post Secondary Education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in an owner operated environment
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is a must
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation)
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and organizational skills
• Effective communicator with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• A proactive mindset and openness to process improvement and automation
