<p><h3>Protection and Control Engineer in Training (EIT)</h3><p>Nova Scotia Power, Control Center Operations</p>
<p>Location: Ragged Lake, NS</p>
<p>Type of Employment: Regular, Full Time</p>
<p>Closing Date: December 14th, 2025</p>
<p>We are currently looking for a <b>Protection and Control Engineer in Training (EIT)</b> to join our Control Center Operations team.</p>
<p>Reporting to the Senior Protection and Control Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System through operational engineering activities. You will also play a key role in shaping the future grid as new technologies such as wind farms, battery energy storage systems, and synchronous condensers continue to be integrated. This role is located at our Ragged Lake location.</p>
<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Produce protective relay settings for transmission lines and substations, coordinate relay settings with generation and distribution, and maintain under frequency load shedding and automatic reclosing schedules.</li>
<li>Provide support to the Substation Operations and Technical Services engineering groups on protective relaying design and operation.</li>
<li>Operate and maintain disturbance monitoring equipment to assist in the investigation, resolution, and reporting of system outages.</li>
<li>Initiate capital improvements to address operational deficiencies.</li>
<li>Develop and update operating guidelines, protection summaries, system one-line diagrams, and operator displays for system changes and additions.</li>
<li>Accept new apparatus into service on behalf of Energy Control Centre Operations.</li>
<li>Assist in the scheduling and coordination of planned outages, prepare and approve switching procedures, and review protection and control requirements to support outages, while balancing impacts to customers, system security, economic dispatch, and adequacy of protection.</li>
<li>Provide support for system operators on protection, control, metering, and outage restoration.</li>
<li>Maintain compliance with reliability and cyber security standards as they pertain to the Protection & Control functions of Nova Scotia Power.</li>
<li>Participate in compliance audits for reliability standards as a Protection & Control subject matter expert for Energy Control Centre Operations.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Skills and Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a member (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia.</li>
<li>Developed technical knowledge in electric utility engineering disciplines and have knowledge of protective relaying systems and processes.</li>
<li>Strong oral and written communication skills and a strong customer service ethic.</li>
<li>Good interpersonal skills and can function effectively in a team environment.</li>
<li>Ability to provide work leadership and technical direction to fellow engineers and technical support staff.</li>
<li>A self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills.</li>
<li>Strong computer skills with attention to detail.</li>
<li>Demonstrated commitment to personal development.</li>
<li>A valid driver’s license must be available for after-hour consultation and emergency power restoration work.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Note:</b> The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check in accordance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.</p>
