Job Description
<p><p>Under the supervision of the Vice President of Financial Reporting, the Senior Accountant is essential in delivering expertise in financial disclosure aligned with US GAAP and IFRS standards, ensuring regulatory adherence, and supporting periodic compliance submissions.</p><p>While the role responsibilities below are primarily on the accounting side, after learning these basics, the role will begin taking on additional responsibilities in FP&A -- including forecasting, budgeting, and analysis. This is a great opportunity to expand your skillset into FP&A.</p>
<h3>Base pay range</h3>
<p>CA$90,000.00/yr - CA$100,000.00/yr</p>
<h3>Responsibilities:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including: monthly consolidated reports for the U.S. parent organization, monthly management reports for the Canadian leadership team, and critical materials for quarterly Board meetings</li>
<li>Conduct detailed financial analysis, reconciliations, and quality checks on profit commission calculations contingent on specific agreements, monthly financial statements and dashboards, and US GAAP financial reporting packages</li>
<li>Reconciling policy administration data with the financial results</li>
<li>Collaborate with various internal teams such as Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, and other functional units to ensure accurate reporting.</li>
<li>Support regulatory submissions by providing IFRS results for OSFI filings.</li>
<li>Coordinate with Canadian, U.S., and European affiliates for internal reporting purposes.</li>
<li>Assist with external audit processes, including: Preparation of key IFRS or GAAP schedules for annual financial audits</li>
<li>Mentor and guide junior staff members</li>
<li>Respond to special requests from management on an ad hoc basis</li>
</ul>
<h3>Qualifications:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited university</li>
<li>Professional accounting designation, preferably CPA</li>
<li>Minimum of five years of applicable experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on property & casualty</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and preferably IFRS 17</li>
<li>Experience with systems such as Infor Sun Financials, SAP, and Power BI is advantageous</li>
<li>Excellent analytical, accounting, and problem-solving skills</li>
<li>Superior communication skills, both oral and written</li>
<li>Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment</li>
