<p>Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 4662U – Web Penetration Testing.</p>
<h3>The current schedule is:</h3>
<p><b>Lab:</b> Tuesdays 11:10 am – 2:00 pm</p>
<p><b>Lecture:</b> Thursdays 6:40 pm – 9:30 pm</p>
<p>Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University’s north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.</p>
<h3>Responsibilities / Accountabilities</h3>
<p>The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.</p>
<p>The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.</p>
<p>This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.</p>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<p>In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.</p>
<p>Required Education:</p>
<ul>
<li>Master’s degree or PhD (or PhD ABD) in a relevant field with a strong focus on security, such as cybersecurity, information security, computer science, or information technology/information systems (with a strong security background).</li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Skills</h3>
<p>Technical skills:</p>
<ul>
<li>Offensive security and penetration testing skills, with in-depth knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 and common web vulnerabilities.</li>
<li>Knowledge of potential attack vectors in web applications and systems.</li>
<li>Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, sqlmap, Nmap, and Metasploit.</li>
<li>Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, HTTP/HTTPS, cookies, REST APIs, and web server behavior.</li>
<li>Understanding of how web applications should be secured and how to remediate vulnerabilities.</li>
<li>Ability to create and manage safe, controlled environments for students to perform ethical hacking activities.</li>
<li>Experience in lecture preparation and delivery, assessment design, and student engagement.</li>
</ul>
<p>Administrative skills:</p>
<ul>
<li>Excellent communication skills.</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills.</li>
<li>Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.</li>
<li>High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meet and Kaltura.</li>
<li>Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.</li>
<li>An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.</li>
<li>An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Experience</h3>
<p>Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in cybersecurity or computer science.</p>
<p>Preference will be given to candidates with experience in designing labs and working with vulnerable systems.</p>
<p>Industry experience in relevant domains, and certifications such as OSCP, OSWE, or CEH, are considered assets.</p>
<p>Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.</p>
