Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking In-field Instrumentation Automation Specialists (Geotechnical and Hydrogeological monitoring) based in Western Canada. This full-time, non-exempt position involves operations maintenance, system design, estimation, procurement, assembly, and programming of geotechnical and hydrogeological monitoring stations. The role includes troubleshooting, system support, and working independently in the field, with support from supervisors.

This is primarily a field position, with about 85% fieldwork, requiring rotations of 12-hour shifts (day/night) and travel to remote locations. Travel costs are covered from Calgary and Edmonton.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Follow site-specific HSE policies and promote safety, aiming for zero incidents.
  • Participate in daily tailgate meetings and hazard reporting.
  • Document significant events and observations.
  • Commission telemetry-enabled data acquisition systems and integrate sensors.
  • Maintain monitoring programs through troubleshooting, diagnostics, and calibration.
  • Program, install, and download data loggers.
  • Take readings from various geotechnical instruments and perform maintenance.
  • Ensure data quality and document installation details.
  • Update instrumentation data files and drawings.
  • Install, modify, and decommission geotechnical and hydrogeological instruments/wells.
  • Operate light vehicles and off-road vehicles for remote access.
  • Engage with stakeholders for information gathering.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with geotechnical and hydrogeological data systems (e.g., Campbell Scientific, Ackcio).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Motivated with good leadership and communication skills.
  • Off-road driving experience is an asset.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, fitness, and background checks are required.

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma in Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Ability to carry 20 kg over rough terrain.
  • At least 2 years relevant experience, including mine driving, is preferred.
  • Relevant professional memberships or certifications are assets.
