<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p>Salary: <br /><p>Position Summary</p><p>The Surgery Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a <br />highly trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork <br />at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency.</p><p><br />The Surgery RVT will report to the Lead Specialty RVT and work closely with Dr. Bruce to deliver high <br />level patient care.</p><p><br />The ideal candidate values maintaining a collegial working culture and prioritizes embracing the <br />strategy, commitments, and goals of the organization to deliver high standards of medicine and <br />exceptional patient care.</p><p><br />This role will allow for a compressed work week with four 10-hour shifts. Overtime hours will be <br />required as needed for urgent surgical cases.</p><p><br />Duties and Responsibilities<br /> Performs all technical responsibilities of a RVT including: <br /> Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization techniques. <br /> Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements and CRIs. <br /> Monitoring anesthesia. <br /> Use of anesthesia ventilators and multiparameter monitors.<br /> Perform epidurals and other local anesthesia blocks. <br /> Acquiring high quality radiographs. <br /> Performing CPR. <br /> Performing advanced diagnostic tests. <br /> Assisting in surgeries. <br /> Managing hospitalized patients, performing recovery care and additional specialized <br />treatments. <br /> Assist with CT scans of surgical patients. <br /> Help manage department schedule, including consults, rechecks and procedures. <br /> Provides education, home care instructions, and nutritional counseling to clients. <br /> Responsible for surgery room set-up, clean up, and quick turn over between procedures. <br /> Perform decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical <br />supplies. <br /> Report problems or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. <br /> Perform quality assurance tests to ensure that the sterilization process is effective. <br /> Perform inventory management of supplies and pharmaceuticals as required, including <br />ordering, receiving, storage, and handling. <br /> Requirement to participate in surgery on-call schedule. <br /> Supports management of client complaints as required in partnership with the Lead <br />Specialty RVT and Hospital Manager, interacting with clientele to deescalate, resolve, <br />and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion. <br /> Maintains practice software including client and patient record management. <br /> Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations. <br /> Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace <br />health and safety. <br /> Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other <br />department team members. Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines <br />of communication with other departments. <br /> Other duties may be assigned as required.</p><p><br />Qualifications</p><p>Education and Experience<br />The ideal candidate will have:<br /> Animal Health Technology college diploma. <br /> Registered member of the ABVMA <br /> Minimum of 2 years RVT experience. <br /> Experience in the care and management of anesthetized patients.<br /> Prior experience working within a specialty surgery department is an asset.
